Last weekend the Sydney UTSSU Shield were hosted by the QLD Pirates in Round 1 of the Australian Volleyball League.

This week for Round 2 we hosted the WA Steel at Netball Central and what a weekend it was.

The men coming off a double loss and the women racking up 1 under their belt meant that the teams really had to fight hard this weekend.

With consistency being the product in this weekends matches, the Women went to a nail biting 5th set in Game 1 coming away with the win 21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-9. The team spoke about what they needed to do for Game 2 and started well, which lead them to their second win for the weekend 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20.

The Men came out strong on Saturday againt the Steel and dominated the net with Izac Carracher, Hamdy Abouelmaaty and Cyril Marquois all contributing in the front court. The home crowd made a huge difference to the Shield taking the win 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20.

In Game 2 the Shield held strong on their blocking and this was the difference in the first set with several coming from Kelan Nolan making it impossible for WA STEEL to take the first set, with the team taking the win 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20.

Coach Alberto Flamigni said he was happy with the solid team performance with the guys in control of the game. These 6 points will help us to move forward in our journey to the finals.

NSW UTSSU SHIELD head to Canberra for Round 3.
