What a weekend!
Funding cuts, schedule clashes and literal loss of venues, there have been a whole lot of hurdles in the lead up to this edition of the hugely popular VolleyFest. These past few weeks have exemplified the fighting spirit of the collective volleyball community and we were always going to do everything in our power to make this event happen.
Incredible efforts from Volleyball Australia, Northern Beaches Council, the NSW Government, State Volleyball NSW, Northern Beaches Volleyball Association (NBVA) and our beloved volleyball community have seen us turn a destroyed Manly beach into a brilliant platform for high quality volleyball action. Working around the clock, the venue you all saw over the weekend was entirely rebuilt by a team of excavators and multiple staff members and helpers allowing some of the best athletes from across the nation compete in both the NSW Open and U19 & U21 Australian Beach Volleyball Championships (ABVC), with a grand total of 170 matches played across the weekend.
Final Placing for the NSW Open is available here :
HJH Media have also kindly provided some high resolution photos of the weekend’s action across both tournaments. Photos are available for free download HERE.
More photos taken by Volleyball Australia are viewable HERE.
Volleyfest continues at Manly Beach this Friday 28 February at 1pm for the start of the Aus Champs, with matches continuing throughout the weekend all the way through until Sunday afternoon. Best of luck to all of our NSW athletes competing in this tournament.
Still looking for more action? The NSW Beach Volleyball Tour Finals are scheduled for 4 April, 2020 at Coogee Beach. Registrations are now open HERE.
A huge thank you to everybody involved. All in all the weekend was a massive success, especially considering the circumstances in the lead up.
We hope you enjoyed the weekend and look forward to seeing you on the sand soon!
